Psa 122:1 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.”
Hi, Liberty family,
Won’t it be amazing to be back together as a Liberty family?!!! Sure, we get it. Obviously, we can’t go right back to the way things were. We’re restricted to 40% of our occupancy permit and have to do the masked social distance dance. So what? We’ll finally get to see each other! God has created a special bond between us and this separation has only highlighted that fact!
See our Plan at a Glance.
Ok, so now to the details of Liberty reopening: To keep below the 40% and to space everyone out, we’ll be opening another service on Saturdays, 10:30AM which will be especially for anyone in the high-risk categories. That gives us a full day to clean and prepare for the Sunday worship which will also be at 10:30AM, but will include a kids message and an activities packet to occupy kids during the main message. Both services will start promptly at 10:30AM and will be shortened to one hour. In addition, because some people will not feel safe returning to services for a while, the Sunday morning service will be live streamed on both YouTube and Facebook.
Nevertheless, Liberty Christian will return to live in-person services on the weekend of Sat-Sun, June 13 & 14 at 10:30AM. Why not immediately? Before the governor announced Phase 1, our board and staff agreed that we would wait for a week or two where we continue to hold services online before reopening the sanctuary. First of all, we knew we would need the time to communicate the new details about the two services. Secondly, we wanted time to learn from others’ mistakes and not gamble with our own people. And finally, we have ordered and paid for our livestream equipment but it has yet to arrive, let alone be hooked up and tested. All the online prep is extremely time-consuming. We just can’t jam it all in and do it right. God is never in a hurry so an extra week isn’t going to matter in the light of eternity . . .
There will be the familiar social distance stuff that you already know: wearing masks and hand sanitizer stations. We will refrain from handshaking and hugging (but we won’t act like people are trying to kill us if they forget – it’s only because they love us!). Families can sit together but everybody else has to be spaced out a bit. No bulletins or collecting the offering by passing offering plates. We will do communion in a way that does not require passing anything from person to person. Worship teams will be smaller and spaced. But there is no distance to the presence of God!
There are things for which we have no substitute: we can’t have coffee or snacks and there is no practical way to staff or provide nursery/toddler room classes or dismiss kids to KiDz Church. However, the nursery and toddler rooms will be available to any parent who needs to take their child out. We’ll delay restarting Sunday School, Youth and having in-person Bible studies just to cleaning the building so many times. Bible studies and devotionals will continue to be available online. We are trying to creatively work out plans to have some youth and kids’ outings now that it is better weather.
Be assured, we’re going do some fun things to make it feel great to be back together! And if you just recently discovered us online, it’s not hard to feel at home at Liberty. Pastor Derek has a saying, “At Liberty, you’re only a visitor one time, after that, you’re family!” God has brought our hearts together. Please let us know if you will be in the Saturday, June 13 or Sunday, June 14 service or our online services.
In Christ’s love,
Your pastors and your LCC board
